Being Female

The day we are born,

we are taught certain traits.

The expectations of a woman makes you weary and worn,

If you think I am wrong, well then just set me straight!

Our worth is not in our outward appearance.

Can you not see us for what is on the inside?

I sit every day wondering how we are to have perseverance,

when the world view of beauty is what is on the outside.

We can't say this and we can't say that,

or we are labeled for being a witch.

All the while, we have to stay mentally intact.

We are expected to be there for everyone and never flinch.

On the outside, we are to look like we have it all together.

The makeup, the hair, the clothes and always the smile,

we are to keep that up forever.

Bear in mind, all without getting a wrinkle line.

We cook, clean, work, and raise our kids,

and forget the dreams we had.

It is like an unspoken rule laid out on a grid.

All these things can add up and make us sad.

For me, I do not want to fit into the same old box.

I am tired of taking care of everyone and not myself.

But it is like trying to outsmart a fox.

Why is it expected for woman to put others before themself.

Is it selfish to want to feel alive?

Is it selfish to just say no?

Is it selfish to want to thrive?

Is it selfish to not act faux?

I just want women to know that God sees us,

for who WE are.

The world looks for us to be perfect and make no fuss.

But God sees us on the inside and wants us to shine like a star.

He knows are worth by seeing what is in our hearts.

He made us in his image and that should be enough.

Don't let the world keep throwing mean darts.

Let us rely on God to keep us tough.

When you look at me, please don't judge.

I have wrinkles, gray hair and my eyes cross from time to time.

I am beautifully made by my creator, with a few dimples, crinkles and a smudge.

So when you see me, really see ME, and when I see you, let me see YOU, and we will be fine.
